Jennifer O’Connell, Member of Parliament for Pickering-Uxbridge appointed Parliamentary Secretary to Minister of Finance, Youth Economic Opportunity
September 17, 2018 (Ottawa, ON) – This morning, MP Jennifer O’Connell was officially sworn in at the House of Commons as Parliamentary Secretary to Minister of Finance (Youth Economic Opportunity.) News of the appointment was announced by the Prime Minister’s Office on August 31, 2018.
“It is a great honour to take on this new exciting role and I look forward to working closely with colleagues Hon. Minister Morneau and Parliamentary Secretary Joël Lightbound and I am grateful to the Prime Minister for entrusting me with this new portfolio.
The subject of Youth Economic Opportunity is one that I feel is critical to the success of Canada’s economy. Our Government is committed to growing the economy while ensuring no one is left behind. Young people need to be part of the country’s economy and their success will be a reflection of the strength of our economy as a whole. I look forward to creating opportunities for positive change in this area and to doing the work in order to break down some of the barriers that youth are facing on their path to financial success and stability.
While I am excited to embark on this new position, my dedication to representing my constituents here in Ottawa, as well as back home in my community of Pickering-Uxbridge will always be my number one priority. It is a great privilege to represent this community and I will continue to advocate for local priorities such as improving accessibility in our community spaces, investing in Durham Regional Transit to improve connectivity, enhancing the Canada Child Benefit to better support families, and using evidence-based decision-making to lead the future of the federally-owned Pickering Lands.”
